Prayer To Give Witness To God's Light Duirng Turbulent Times
Thursday May 28, 2020
In these days of a new normal that sometimes doesn’t feel so normal it’s great to have God’s unchanging word to steady us and to give us guidance.
I find today’s verses very comforting and encouraging.
Our life comes from God today and in His care we’ll be fine. Yes, we face the huge challenge of the spread of the COVID-19 virus and the ongoing impact it has on our circumstances. But where we have a solid and stead place to stand with God in the middle of all that is – God is our light and our life and no dark thing – including the virus can overcome God’s good care for us today.
It doesn’t mean we might not get sick or experience some of the emotional or financial impact of the pandemic. There are forces in play in our world that are bigger than us and we have responsibilities that impact how life happens to us today. The virus is around us in the community. That’s out of our control. We can all be responsible to do our part to practice proper social distancing and keep conditions as safe and healthy as we can for others. However, around all of this is under the watchful care of God who is our life and who promises that these things will not overwhelm us as we welcome Him to care for us. So let’s do that in our prayer today:
Loving God, Thank you for being the light in our darkness and peace for our soul. No matter what dark things take place around us or what dark thoughts come near us, You are light for us. You will show us the way. You will give us right thoughts. You will guide us carefully and at just the right pace. You will redirect us if we begin to go astray and You will steady us with our hand in Yours as we take each step.
You have an amazing plan and purpose for our lives. Our destiny is marked out for us in Your heart. How amazing is that.
The prophet Habbakuk reminds us that You are in control working out Your plan and reveal all we need to know. He says:
And so God, we wait with You for Your appointed time for all things for our good and our way forward in this new season. Though information may seem like it is slow in coming we won’t fret and we won’t fear. What we need to know will come at just the right time. Your word, Your direction for us will not be delayed. All will be revealed.
And so we commit this day, ourselves, and this season into Your care. We welcome You God to our hearts and lives in this time of beginning. We welcome Your mercies and Your compassion that are new every morning for us. We receive what You are giving. We will live well with You today. Amen

I find today’s verses very comforting and encouraging.
In him was life,
and that life
was the light
of all mankind.
The light shines
in the darkness,
and the darkness
has not overcome it.
John 1:4-5

For the revelation
awaits an
appointed time;
it speaks of the end
and will not
prove false.
Though it linger,
wait for it;
it will
certainly come
and will not delay.
Habakkuk 2:3
