Praying God's Own Words Back To Him

Tuesday August 25, 2020

I’ve mentioned before how part of my morning routine is to read through the Bible based on a schedule of readings called The Lectionary.  It includes a selection from the Psalms, the Old Testament, The New Testament, and a Gospel reading.  Because it is such a long chapter, some part of Psalm 119 often shows up either in those morning readings or the Psalm reading that I share over the telephone with my friend Evelyn at the end of each day.

Let’s pray with some of these wise words today:

Your compassion, Lord, is great;
preserve my life according to your laws.
See how I love your precepts;
preserve my life, Lord,
in accordance with your love.
Psalm 119:156, 159

Loving God, we dare to come to You today because Your compassion for us is great.  You have shown us how to live well and stay safe.  Help us to follow Your teachings/Your laws so this becomes our lived experience.  Cover us with Your love today so we walk with strength and stay open to receive forgiveness and healing when we stray away from Your way and stumble.

All your words are true;
all your righteous laws are eternal.
I rejoice in your promise
ike one who finds great spoil.
Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.
Psalm 119:160, 162, 165

Thank you that we can stand steady on the rock solid foundation of Your words because they are always true and they last forever.  They are not like the words of politicians and others who say one thing today and do something else tomorrow.  What You say is who You are and what You will always do.  That fills our hearts with joy and peace.  Thank you.

I wait for your salvation, Lord,
and I follow your commands.
I obey your statutes,
for I love them greatly.
I obey your precepts and your statutes,
for all my ways are known to you.
Psalm 119:166-168

We wish we could understand more and see difficult things changed more quickly but in faith in Your goodness today, we will wait for You to act in Your time and Your way.  We’ll simply give ourselves to doing what is right and following Your commands today, leaving all the rest to Your care.

May my cry come before you, Lord;
give me understanding according to your word.
May my supplication come before you;
deliver me according to your promise.
Psalm 119:169-170

And so we entrust ourselves once again into Your care knowing that our cry has come before You, that You will give us understanding according to Your word and that You will deliver us today according to Your promises.  Amen
