Shared Prayer The First Sunday After Christmas

Sunday December 27, 2020

 The First Sunday After

Well, here we are on the first Sunday after Christmas  We’ve had Boxing Day for those of us who live here in Canada and now it’s Sunday.

We’re called by our Creator to stop and rest a while and so we want to do that today.

Someone has shared some lovely prayers for this first Sunday of Christmas and so we’ll use those today as we pray:

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Heavenly Father, We thank you for sending your only begotten son for me. May we always be truly thankful for all the sacrifices that You have made for us. We pray that we will never forget the true reason for this season. As this is the first Sunday after Christmas, let our focus not be about the Christmas gifts but the eternal gift given by you, Lord. Lord help us to tell others of your wonderful deeds that they may also know you, Amen.

Be strong and of good courage.  Do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord Your God, He is the one who goes with you.  He will not eave you nor forsake you.  Deuteronomy 31:6

Oh God, we thank You for the time that you have allowed us to spend with our loved ones over Christmas, even if just in a very small group at home. During this first Sunday after Christmas, God we remember those who have not enjoyed the Christmas period for a variety of reasons and we ask that You comfort each individual in the Name of Jesus. We pray that You will continue to remind them of your unconditional love and that You will never leave or forsake them, Amen.

A new command I give you:  love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  John 13:34

Dear Lord, We thank You for the Christmas holiday period. We pray Lord that You will help us to always remember the unconditional love of God and help us to follow your commandments and love one another as You love us. During this first Sunday after Christmas, we pray that You will equip each of us with necessary gifts to be effective in our local community to lead others to Christ that they may also know our Lord and personal savior, Amen.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Psalm 37:4

Almighty one, we thank You for the birth of Your Son that has given us hope and prosperity. As we look forward to the coming year we pray that You keep and protect us all. We pray that we will always delight in the Lord and that You will grant us the desires of our hearts. We pray for Your continual blessings from this day forward, this first Sunday after Christmas 2020, and that You will continue to direct our path as we look to You for guidance, Amen.

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Father, we bless your Name as we have so much to be thankful for. Help us Lord not to be ungrateful for the constant provision and protection that You freely give to us. We pray that we will always be thankful in all circumstances. As the end of the year approaches, we pray that You will help us to reflect upon this year so we will be guided by You in our prayer life and in all our actions, this we ask, Amen.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Psalm 23:6

Dear God, We thank You that You are Emmanuel, God with us. We pray that not only in this season but in all seasons, we will always remember that you are with us. We pray that we will always remain faithful to You and dwell in the house of the Lord forever and that Your goodness and love will follow us As we pray together on this first Sunday after Christmas, let your favor always rest upon us and be a shield of protection around us today and throughout 2021. Amen.
