 INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSION OF GOD’S GOODNESS

We all have particular interests, gifts and talents.  That’s the beauty and creativity of our creator displayed in us.

Each of our lives can be a witness to others of who God is and how God works in our world today.  What we do, how we do it, the attitudes we bring to the task are all important.

I love how various roles from soldiers to athletes to farmers are used as lessons for us in these sentences from God’s Word.

Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.  2 Timothy 2:4-7

They speak of the focused effort that produces enjoyable results.  Oh yes, there’s some suffering and perseverance involved.  Thank goodness the Bible gives us realistic pictures of the life that has both challenges and rewards.

Let’s pray today that our lives will be the kind of witness God intended.

Loving God, we thank You for creating us with the particular set of interests, gifts and talents that make each of us the unique personality we are today.  Thank you for using all of our history to help shape us for this day for Your loving and creative purposes.

We want to live with Your will as our focus and experience the empowering of Your Holy Spirit in us giving us the power to persist in wanting to do Your will, even when it’s hard, and having the power to carry it out.

We may not be a soldier, an athlete, or a farmer, but we can be someone through whom Your love and grace can be seen today.  Help us to understand and live in Your plan that is so satisfying for each one of us.  Amen
