Praying To Know the Right Place Of Money In Our Life

Tuesday September 7, 2021

Well, the politicians suddenly have money for anything and everything.  You know you’re in an election when you hear the endless promises announced from day-to-day for this program and that one.  Never mind that we are coming out of the depths of a pandemic where mind numbing debt has been created in order to prop people up during hard times.  Deficits with more zeroes than we’ve ever seen have become common.  Instead of curtailing spending and finding a way to balance budgets it seems as though lots of spending that wouldn’t be allowed in normal times is being announced now while our minds are grappling with the huge amounts of the past months.   A couple of billion dollars here and there seems like a “drop in the bucket” where a couple of years ago a deficit spending of a couple of billion was big and bad political news.

We know that money doesn’t solve our problems.  In fact, the love of money is the root of all evil we know.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.  1 Timothy 6:10

Now that’s not to say that money doesn’t have its place and I’m right there with everyone else wanting to have what I need – and too often a lot of what I want as well.  However, the foundation of what makes today good is this:

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19

God is more than trustworthy to meet all our needs.  His supply goes way beyond what we need and when we open our hearts to His grace, what He pours is exactly what the situation calls for – even if we didn’t know it before He supplied it in His way.

In fact God wants our focus to be on giving rather than looking to get.  We give first back to God in recognition that all we have comes from Him.

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.  Malachi 3:10

God doesn’t lie and He tells us that we will have a more blessed and satisfying life when we give.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.  Acts 20:35

So Heavenly Father, we are grateful that we can live without the burdens of stress and worry when it comes to money because you promise to give us what we need.  It doesn’t mean we can sit back and wait for a windfall to land in our lap, but it does mean that we can trust You every single day to provide what we need in order to experience life at its best.

This is such a counter cultural message but we want to embrace it today and live in the relaxed and peaceful mindset that You so long for us to experience.

Thank You for all Your provision every day of our lives that has brought us to this day.  We are grateful.  We choose to acknowledge once again today that our source of all that is good going forward is You.  We bless You.  Amen
