A Prayer For Faith - Even As Small As A Mustard Seed

 AN AMAZING MUSTARD SEED

We were thinking yesterday about hanging in there and doing what was needed to actually complete what needs doing – whether it is a habit change or a character defect that needs removing.

Change often seems to start slowly and it’s during those early days that I think we need encouragement.  Jesus gave us one of those encouragements when He spoke about a mustard seed.

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, it is enough. You can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there.” And it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.  Matthew 17:20-21

Mustard is very small seed but in only three months it can grow and produce a mature harvest.  Amazing growth in a short space of time.  What might we be able to accomplish as we join our lives with God and allow His process of growth and change to take effect in us?

If we take the little bit of faith we have, enter the process of "coming to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity" and turn our will and our lives over to God's care, then in even the short space of 90 days amazing changes can be ours.  Our faith is not in our own ability but in God's unfailing love and power to uphold us as we grow and change.

I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.  Philippians 1:6

Thank you God for creating us with amazing potential which is still waiting to be discovered.  So much of our self-centeredness in the past blocked out the vision You wanted to show us of all that You created us to be  but today and going forward we want to receive all that You are longing to pour into us and build into our character.  We want to grow strong and steady in Your unfailing love so we can be living proof of what You were talking about when You said:   

No one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, no one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

Give us faith today, even faith as small as a mustard seed, to trust You to make something amazing of our day and our lives going forward.  Amen
