Strength of Character - Just and True

 JUST AND TRUE

We’re thinking about developing a good and solid character.

I think we wouldn’t get much argument from anyone if we described someone with good character as being, honest, responsible, generous, caring, fair etc.  These are all seen a good character traits and the more we live in them, regardless of our circumstances, the more we become known as people of good character.

One of the great challenges to living in this way is our tendency to feel sorry for ourselves when things don’t seem to be fair. 

We see others getting advantages with job or income or opportunities in various ways that we wish we had

We feel needy in certain ways and others that we might not even think are entitled to it, seem to get benefits we could really use. 

It’s easy to complain that life is unfair. Where is God in the middle of all of this?  Here’s the good news.

The Lord is good and does what is right. He shows sinners the right way to live. He teaches his ways to humble people. He leads them with fairness.

Psalm 25:8-9

Even though we are sinners – people who don’t always get it right and whose own choices and actions have often resulted in the circumstances we find ourselves in – God is teaching us His good ways and leads us with fairness.

God has a good plan for our lives and is willing and able to put it into effect.  As long as we keep making the choice to do follow His instructions we have this hope:

God is fair, and he will remember all the work you have done. He will remember that you showed your love to him by helping his people and that you continue to help them. 

Hebrews 6:10   

Loving God, we dislike problems and feel that sometimes life is unfair.  Help us to keep our focus on You, the one who is always fair and always treats us fairly.

Help us to stop comparing our situation to that of others,  to simply do what is right and trust that as we go forward, You are working all things together for our good. 

Thank You for always noticing everything that is going on, even if we think others who should notice and respond haven’t.  Our hope is in You.  We find peace and confidence in that fact today.   Amen

Well, God is just and fair always.  Let’s do our best to follow in His footsteps today and get it right ourselves.
