How To Be A Person of Influence
Do you ever wonder if opportunities to do well in life have passed you by? We know that with the financial times we live in many young families certainly wonder if owning their own home is something they’ll ever be able to achieve. Others wonder if they can get the education and training and then employment in areas that are of interest to them. We somehow think that it takes these kinds of conditions for us to become people of influence with an ability to do well.
Today we are encouraged to recognize how much influence we can have and how much good we can do even though we may not have a lot of money or prestige.
In Psalm 106 a story is being recounted of a time the people of God were doing what was wrong. One man decided to be courageous and to intervene. Here we are, thousands of years later learning and being influenced by his actions.
But Phinehas had the courage to intervene, and the plague was stopped. So he has been regarded as a righteous man ever since that time.
Psalm 106:30-31
You can read the whole story in Numbers 25 but this little summary tells us what we need to know, doesn’t it?
As long as God gives us life and breath, He has something good that He desires to accomplish through us. We don’t have to have a world wide reputation or thousands of followers on social media. When we are faithful to use the opportunities and talents we have been given to encourage others and strengthen our faith, God’s great plan is being fulfilled in us and people around us are being influenced for good.
We don’t have to push and shove to get ahead and to leave a helpful example for others to follow. In fact, a simple life lived well, words of encouragement spoken softly here and there and we will be those that please God and touch the lives of others for generations to come.
Our God-given responsibility today is to simply offer the truth that God gives us and leave the outcome with Him. Each of us will have to give an account for the opportunities God gives us.
Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
Romans 14:12
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18
Loving God, Many people in the community may not have thought much about Phinehas until he acted but here we are thousands of years later being influenced to be courageous persons because the record of what he did.
We don’t know the long-term influence of our obedience to Your plans and purposes, but we trust today that everything done for You will last. Amen
So, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves in today, whether easy or difficult, let’s take a moment to reflect on what’s right and then act accordingly so others searching for truth may learn a bit of it from our example.
