Higher Education

We often attach the label, “higher education” to those degrees people seek who go to college and university after high school graduation. But, when you think about it. every student around the world is working towards a higher education.  It doesn’t matter if you are learning your alphabet in Kindergarten so you can get to Grade 1 or completing elementary school reading and math skills in order to get to middle school and high school Every student is wanting to learn more and know more.  Each one is seeking a higher education.

Throughout life God calls us to do the same.  He calls us to learn and put into practice understandings and skills so we grow wiser and live better.  Learning to know God’s ways are the true higher education.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.  For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”  Psalm 55:8-9

We elect certain politicians because we believe they have a higher/better understanding of global and economic issues than we do – doesn’t always work out but that’s what we are hoping for.

We read articles and books.  We go to seminars.  We listen to our elders.  We believe they have information to share with us that only life experience can provide and which we need.  God’s invitation to You and I today is to sit with Him and learn from Him. 

Heavenly Father, thank You for your willingness to spend time with us and to teach us Your higher and better way of living.  We acknowledge that we don’t know enough on our own. Our experience, our learning, our understandings are just too limited – even though we often find that hard to admit.

Today, would You fill us with Your Holy Spirt whom You said You would give us in order to guide us into all truth.  Help us to keep our hearts open to Your thoughts and Your ways with the humility necessary to change our thoughts and actions as we observe what You are teaching us.  Amen

Let’s take time today to learn more and move to that higher level of thinking and behaving God is offering to us.
