Few Words
I remember thinking that email would never replace letters and then texting came along and I never thought find it easier to deal with short text messages rather than longer emails, but that is certainly where we are at today, isn’t it? I know that people are ready to watch only a few seconds rather than a few minutes of most videos, including these. We live in a time where it seems that less words is more.
There is a saying that the famous St Francis of Assisi usually has attributed to him, though we’re not sure it was actually him that said it.
Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.
When necessary, use words.
Years ago during the Covid pandemic our local health officer, made six little words famous around here by ending her daily TV briefing this way: “Be calm. Be Kind. Be Safe.”
Six little words but at the time they seemed to help all of us remember what was most important during a challenging time.
I’ve mentioned before how the prophet Micah sorted out what was important for us to focus on each day in order to please God. He managed to get it all said in 14 words.
O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
Today we find a prayer in Psalm 19 that is just a few words as well but one which helps us set our hearts, minds, and mouth in the right direction.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Let’s choose our words well and make the most of the words we choose. Have a great day.
