Serving With Kindness
Just for today I will seek to serve others with kindness, doing what is right, and walking humbly with God.
That principle is taught to us clearly in God’s Word when we read:
The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy and you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God. Micah 6:8
As we choose life with God in recovery we will often come to a place of challenge where we want to do what we want to do rather than what God is telling us to do.
Perhaps we are having fun and it would be inconvenient to stop and listen to a person who needs to share or needs help with something. We’d rather let someone else do it this time. We hear the quiet voice in our head saying, “Do the right thing.” Will we ignore it or will we respond with kindness?
God invites us to grow up and make mature choices as adults who act responsibly. God calls us to live as Jesus did, showing compassion and mercy where we can, even when its inconvenient and we don’t feel like doing it.
We shouldn’t serve grudgingly and we certainly shouldn’t serve as though we were better than the other person. That’s where the principle mentioned above in God’s Word gives us the guidance: “be humble as you live in the sight of your God.”
We are the students. God is the teacher. Only God knows all the factors in a given situation. God wants us to depend on Him, serve with kindness, and the rest of what we need will come in God’s right time. This requires humility and surrender on our part.
Heavenly Father, give us the grace and strength to serve others with kindness today. Teach us to do what is right when it is right to do it. Help us to be willing to do things Your way not ours and to trust Your good plan in it all. Amen
Just for today I will seek to serve others with kindness, doing what is right, and walking humbly with God.
