Stop Lying
Most people in our world today don’t give a second thought to telling lies. It is simply a way of life, a way of survival.
People lie so they look better than they are acting. They lie to try to gain advantage. They lie because they are angry with someone and want to get back at them. They lie to themselves to minimize and excuse their poor attitudes or behaviour.
The truth is, whenever any person tries to live without God they quickly descend into a habit of telling lies.
They all fool and defraud each other; no one tells the truth. With practiced tongues they tell lies; they wear themselves out with all their sinning. Jeremiah 9:5
The life we are called by God to live today is shaped by choosing to tell the truth in all circumstances. Our character reflects God’s character when we speak the truth. In contrast, it is most like that of the evil one when we are lying.
Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. Psalm 24:3-5
Loving God, we know You want us to experience a rich and blessed life. Lying contaminates and destroys our relationships and so we agree with You today that telling the truth is always the best choice.
Forgive us for the many times we have lied to you, to others, and to ourselves. Thank you for a new opportunity in this new day. Help us today to always speak the truth and be transparent in all our ways. Amen
Well, maybe it’s useful today to take an inventory of areas where we are vulnerable to deceiving and lying and ask God to help us operate in a new and truthful way today.
Even if our starting point is needing the willingness to try to do what seems to be impossible, we can ask God for that and start there.
