The Rocks Speak

Tuesday August 18, 2026

Rocks – and particularly stacks of rocks are pretty interesting, aren’t they.  I think I first noticed them here on the beach in Vancouver but I’ve seen them in Mexico and other places.

Rocks speak to us of stability and strong foundations don’t they? We’re reminded in the Bible that God is that strong and sure foundation for us.

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

We’re told in God’s Word to build our lives on a solid rock – and that’s the guidance of God.  I’m so happy that we have a God we can lean on who does no wrong and is faithful to us. Aren’t you?

So then, looking at the flip side, the Bible also tells us that our response to what God tells us to do has something to do with rocks as well. Remember the story that Jesus told

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Matthew 7:24-26

So it’s not just knowing what God says works but actually putting it into practice.  How are we doing with that today?

Thankfully, it doesn’t all depend on us getting it right and doing it right all the time.  God promises to be our rock and to be available to us whenever we turn to Him and ask for His saving help.

Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Psalm 73:1

Loving God, we are so glad that You speak to us and everything You say is dependable.  You give us guidance through uncertain times and every direction You give us leads us safely forward.

Give us the humility and the grace to submit to the instructions You give us and to walk with You today so our lives can be stable and well.  Amen

Let’s make ourselves available to God and let Him be our rock of safety and stability today.
