I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. (Psalm 121:1-3, 7-8 NLT)

The “God view” provides a wonderful vista. Feeling the bright light of God’s love fall upon us, hearing God’s voice name us, understanding that we are a beloved child of God is a mountaintop experience. However, we don't always live on a mountaintop. Sometimes, as we live in the valley the God view seems to grow dim and circumstances and challenges around us seem to grow larger.

I recall many evenings in Taiwan just after sunset as I would ride my motor scooter down the mountain and approach the city after an afternoon of resting and being refreshed in the orange groves up high. The noise and lights of the city would come closer with every turn and the peace and serenity of an afternoon in quiet sunshine would slip away. Some part of me longed to turn back but I knew responsibilities and life awaited me in the city.

As our view of life around us seeks to obscure the God view within us, we must continually claim God’s view of ourselves and our life. We must continually be reminded of the person God knows us to be. Whether we are on a mountain or looking to the mountains, we must never forget God's amazing power and the beauty with which He is willing and able to fill both us and our circumstances.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. (2 Corinthians 2:14 NLT)
