Faithfulness (1) A Faithful Worker
Monday September 9, 2013

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV)
What does it mean to be faithful? The dictionary defines faithful in several different ways: 1) Strict or thorough in the performance of duty - a faithful worker. 2) True to one’s word, promises, vows, etc. 3) Steady in allegiance or affection, loyal, constant - faithful friends. 4) Adhering or true to fact, a standard, or an original, accurate – a faithful account or a faithful copy.

All of the above describe some of the attributes of God. Let’s look at one of these attributes, that of a faithful worker. The Bible tells us that God worked for six days to create the heavens and the earth and then He rested on the seventh day. As we read the history of creation, as told in the Bible, we understood that each of the six days God worked on a part of His overall plan of creation. As the architect of the earth and its atmosphere, God formed it to be inhabited.
Day 1 He spoke light out of the darkness and divided the light from the darkness.
Day 2 He spoke firmament (heavens or sky), in the midst of the waters and divided the waters under the firmament from the waters above the firmament.
Day 3 He gathered the waters together into one place and let the dry land appear. The dry land He called earth. Then He brought forth on the dry land grass and seeds and herbs and fruitful trees.
Day 4 He made lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night and these lights would establish signs and seasons and days and years; He made the sun and the moon and He made the stars also.
Day 5 He made the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.
Day 6 Then God made man in His own image; in the image of Himself He created him; male and female He created them.

God is orderly and thorough in everything He does. His order in creating the earth and the creatures that inhabit it is a masterpiece in itself. He is not an author of confusion, but the God of intricate detail. We can trust Him with our lives because He made us, He made the earth we inhabit, and He cares about all that He has made.
O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds? For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in vain’; I, the Lord, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. (Deuteronomy 3:24; Isaiah 45:18-19 NKJV)

Great and mighty is our God and He is a faithful worker whom we can trust to do the mighty deeds He says He will do. Are you a faithful worker? Can your spouse and your children, and those to whom you commit to do something for, trust you to perform it? God promises that if you submit to Him and follow all His ways that you will be successful in all you do.
Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go. (1 Kings 2:3 NLT)
