Tenderly Held In Loving Hands

He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.  (Jeremiah 18:6 NIV)

What is it like to be in the hands of God?  The Bible makes it clear.  Here are a few examples of what is said:

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:11 NIV)
You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. (Psalm 18:35 NIV)
Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. (Psalm 20:6 NIV)
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:23-24  NIV)

He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them. (Psalm 106:10 NIV)
You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. (Psalm 139:5 NIV)
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139:9-10 NIV)
You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. (Psalm 145:16 NIV)

In these verses we are told that in God's hands there is:  joy, saving help, victory, protection, help with power, lifting up when we stumble, saving from enemies, protection on every side, faithful guidance, and satisfaction for the desires of our hearts.  Wonderful promises to us from the word of God!

Consider also what it would be like to be held in the nail pierced hands of Jesus who for the joy set before Him endured the cross for our sin?  How much love and tenderness and blessing await us there?

God speaks to us today, "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.  Can I not do with you as this potter does?"

You can place your name where the name "Israel" fits in this verse.  Can you hear God’s invitation to you today?  Can you hear the tenderness and longing of God to form you into the vessel He created you to be?  How would life be for you if you focused on being held in the nail pierced hands of Jesus?  How would life be if you chose to be shaped and molded by those same marred, skilled hands?
