PERSEVERANCE AND CHANGE

Rosa Parks is an African American who was treated unfairly just because she was black.  The transportation service had laws which discriminated against black people.  When Rosa rode the bus home after a long day of work and was seated she was made to give up her seat if a white person entered the bus and no seat was available for them.   Even if a young white person came on the bus the law still required Rosa, an older lady, to stand up and give them her seat and then move to the back of the bus.  Rosa knew this was unjust and one day she remained seated on the bus when a white person came on board and asked for her seat.  Troubles followed Rosa because of her decision and she even had to go to prison for disobeying this unjust law. However, Rosa persevered and others joined her in the fight to end discrimination against black people in United States.  Because of Rosa, and others who joined her in her fight against the unjust laws, justice and freedom came and the laws were changed.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. (James 1:2-4 NLT)

We may not have the same kind of national influence that Rosa Parks had but, if we will bring our problems to God, and seek His direction and solution, things will change.  If we take action as God directs and trust God for the outcome we will see changes beyond all we can imagine right now.  God promises that we will grow and that others will be blessed when we share our new life in Christ with them.  Our lives will give a living witness that trusting God brings life that is perfect and complete, needing nothing.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT)

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2 NLT)
