WELCOME TO THE PLACE OF LEVEL GROUND

Canadian songwriter and worship leader Brian Doerksen recorded the following song together with individuals who had spent time in correctional facilities or who were coming back from addictive and destructive lifestyles.  These folks were like most of us, strugglers who are dearly loved by our gracious God who is infinite in power and mercy.  In His love and mercy He sent His only begotten son Jesus to die for our sins, and not only ours, but those of the whole world. 



Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV)

Welcome to the place of level ground
Welcome to the place where grace abound
We all need mercy. We all need mercy
Welcome to the place where none can boast
Welcome to the place compassion flows

None of us are worthy on our own
None of us could keep the perfect Law
None of us have lived a sinless life
But thanks be to God, He sent us all a Saviour
Jesus Christ, The only God of grace

When Jesus walked on this earth all sorts of people came to him for healing.  Some of these were blind, some were demon possessed, and some were crippled or had other diseases which caused them to suffer pain and anguish.  Over and over again Jesus reached out His hand, touched them, and healed them.  Jesus came that we might have life 
 -and have it more abundantly.  The mercy and grace of God to heal is freely available to all who believe on the one God sent.



It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.  I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.   (Luke 5:31-32, 19:10 NIV)




One day Jesus sat down and ate dinner with folks who were clearly in need of His mercy.  They were just like you and me and those who sat with Brian Doerksen while he recorded the song “Welcome To The Place of Level Ground”.   Some of the self-righteous onlookers condemned Jesus for keeping company with those whom they judged to be publicans and sinners.  These religious people had forgotten that their hidden sin was known to God and in need of His mercy and forgiveness.  Their own scriptures told them that God does not look on the outward appearance but on the heart.


There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one. (Romans 3:10-12 NIV)

Today is a good day for us to come to that place where we are all on level ground and receive forgiveness, mercy and grace from the Lord Jesus.
