March 25, 2014 Exact Nature Of Our Wrongs (2)
Tuesday March 25, 2014

Jesus said, “No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day.” (Luke 9:62 MSG)
The exact nature of our wrongs is that we think God is absent or surprised by the circumstances we find ourselves in. People may have treated us badly in the past and quite naturally we are frightened and wounded by their wrong doing towards us. In certain familiar situations we now seek to protect ourselves from potential harm by becoming angry and resentful towards others. This forms a personality trait which keeps us at a ‘safe distance’ from the harm we fear others may cause us. Instead of turning to God for help, we try to fix the problem ourselves and end up in a worse condition than before. When we bring the issues before God, He will hear our cries for help and rescue us from all our troubles. It may take time to come to the place where we are willing to put our trust in God but it is certain when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.

Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.. (Psalm 3:2-4 NIV)
The exact nature of our wrongs is rooted in the lie that our problems are caused by what is around us rather than what is within us. It’s time that we admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being that our way of dealing with problems did not solve them. Doing things “my way” actually creates greater problems for us and for those closest to us. It’s time to admit that we cannot do life on our own and that we need to seek God’s way forward. God’s direction has to be our first choice every time, rather than our “choice of last resort.” We need to admit that we don’t have all the answers. We need to learn from God’s word and listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. We need to listen to the advice of mentors and others who have walked with God for a time. With God’s help we need to apply what we have learned to our daily living and behaving.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised. (Psalm 119:105-107 NLT)
Are you willing to let God’s word be a light for your path and guidance for your feet?
