SPENDING TIME WITH GOD – WHY BOTHER?

Many of us know that our lives are unmanageable without the care and guidance of God.  We often repeat the words of Step 3 of AA – “We made a decision to turn our will and our life over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

Yet, when it comes to going through tough experiences, many of us spend time doing it alone.  God’s guidance and power are amazing and He offers us the help we need.  How we respond to Him significantly impacts how we experience each day.  In fact, if we truly allow ourselves to live in God’s care and follow His will, we will finally experience the life we’ve always longed for.

Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.   Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths. You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully. Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should! I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me!  (Psalm 119:1-8 NLT)

If I am a person of integrity, I will have joy.  If I follow God’s instructions I will experience joy.  If I make the effort to search for God with all my heart I’m promised joy.  God knows that we can’t do a perfect job of following after the good things He has for us so He encourages us through His word and His Holy Spirit to find our way.  He doesn’t give up on us.  Today let’s give our will and our lives into God’s care.  Let’s seek Him with all our heart.  Let’s ask for and receive His help and finally enjoy the life we were created to live.
