God's "amazing" Plan

Thursday July 31, 2014

Even though God knows best how to guide us today and every day of our lives, God still gives us the choice to follow His plans or to run after our own.  God is kind enough to warn us about the consequences of living in self-will but He will not stop us from choosing to go in that direction.

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.    You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. People stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people ... you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (Proverbs 16:9, 19:21, 1 Peter 2:8-9 NLT)

We try so hard sometimes to make things work and when plans don’t succeed we are so bitterly disappointed.  We often don’t realize that, in our limited knowledge, we made plans that were doomed to fail.  Walking in a maze is a good reminder of the fact that we can walk a long way and make a lot of turns that will seem to take us forward but at some point actually bring us to a dead end.  Only a person in a helicopter up above would have the full vision to direct us in the best way to go.

In our lives, only God has sufficient knowledge to know who we are, where our lives fit into the bigger scheme of things, and how to take us step-by-step forward on a path that will get us to the destination we seek.  He’s been doing it for generations and He’ll continue to do it long after we are gone.

The plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. (Psalm 33:11-12 NIV)

Let’s come to God today for His clear guidance and direction that will take us forward successfully.
