Here I Stand

Friday July 4, 2014

Where do you and I stand today?  I love the word picture painted by the songwriters Stuart Garrard and Martin Smith in the song "Majesty".  The writers see themselves standing pure in the presence of a holy God covered with God's free grace.  It's an amazing picture.

Here I am humbled by your Majesty,
Covered by your grace so free
Here I am, knowing I'm a sinful man,
covered by the blood of the Lamb
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life, the greatest sacrifice

Majesty, Majesty.
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands
Majesty, Majesty.
Forever I am changed by your love
In the presence of your Majesty

Here I am humbled by the love that you give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I'm your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire
Now I've found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life, the greatest sacrifice

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  (John 3:16-17 NIV)

We come to God just as we are believing Jesus died for our sins on the cross.  Jesus, the Son of God, gave us His life for us so we could have life forever with God.  We don't deserve it.  We can't earn it.  God freely gives it.  That's something that should touch our hearts in spite of any pain or injustice that's been done to us or done by us.  God's unfailing love and His forgiveness go deeper than anything we might have experienced to bring healing and wholeness to our innermost being. We stand blameless before a perfectly holy God because the blood of Jesus covers all our sin and we are born again to new life.

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.  (Jude 24-25)

Powerful words! A humbling and freeing experience. We've been forgiven so much. Why would we ever think about wasting the grace that God makes available to us so freely. We are lost in arrogance if we don't forgive as we've been forgiven. The greatest love of all is ours in the forgiving love of Jesus. My heart is forever changed by His forgiving love. How about yours?

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”  (Luke 7:47 NIV)
