Rescue On The Lake
Tuesday July 15, 2014

Peter and his friends were out on the lake in the middle of the night and a storm was threatening to swamp their boat. Their friend Jesus had left them to go to the hills to pray. They needed him desperately now. For hours they struggled against the wind and the waves. Here it was 3am and they were tired and frightened. And then things got even worse, it seemed:

About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” (Matthew 14:25-27 NLT)
Jesus came at just the right moment and rescued Peter and his friends. Jesus will come at just the right moment to rescue us. We are not forgotten. God is watching us, waiting for just the right moment to make His power known to us. In the middle of chaos, in the middle of fear, in the moment of helplessness, when we would sink without his intervention, Jesus will come to us.
Sometimes the troubles in our life are the result of our own bad choices. Will God still help us? One of the wonderful qualities of God is that His love never fails and He is always available to help us. God tells us in the Bible to call on Him in our time of trouble and He will deliver us.

Jesus never condemns, just comforts. In the case of Peter and his friends on the boat he just said to them "don't be afraid. Take courage. I am here." How kind is that? Jesus makes the same offer to you and me that he made to them. "I'm here with you. I want to help you. I can help you. Will you let me?
In the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (page 60) in words we hear at each meeting from "How It Works" we hear the words, "... we were alcoholic and could not manage our own lives; that probably no human power could have relieved our alcoholism; that God could and would if He were sought."

God desires that we call on Him and when we do God is ready. We can't fix ourselves nor can any other human power. God will, if we seek him. Let's do that today.
When you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. (Jeremiah 29:12b-14a NLT)
