Good News

Friday August 8, 2014

When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord the “Good News” is that we became children of God.  God is our Heavenly Father and Jesus is at His right hand.  No matter what presents itself in our lives, we are never alone to deal with it for God is always with us.  Together with God any difficulty can be worked out and overcome.

Jesus endured the cruelty of the cross because of the joy that His resurrection provided for all of us to be with Him in the Kingdom of Heaven.  On earth we are protected by the power of the Holy Spirit of God until we receive all that He has promised.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.  (Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT)

After His resurrection Jesus appeared to His disciples and showed them proof that it was He who had risen from the dead. The disciples were weary and had lost heart until they saw the Lord.  After seeing and believing they were willing to go out and spread the “Good News”. On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down to earth with great power and filled them in a supernatural way.  After this the disciples were willing to die rather than be silenced from telling the “Good News” of what Jesus did on behalf of human kind.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.  Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:19-22 NIV)

What is our part in sharing the “Good News” about Jesus and God’s unfailing love for us?  Jesus has asked us to be His witnesses. Today, why not witness to just one other person the “Good News” of what Jesus has done for you.
