Greater Worth Than Gold

Gold has always been one of the most highly prized metals in the world and the Bible is full of illustrations where gold has been used for artifacts and vessels used in the worship of the living God. The Bible also tells us that gold was used to produce lifeless gods when people fell into idolatry. Today the ownership of gold is highly prized and priced and is also worshipped by some, what could possibly be worth more than it? The Bible tells us that God values faith even more than gold.
Faith is what God desires to see displayed in His people, it is worth more than all the gold we may desire to offer Him. Gold when tested by fire comes out of it having been proved pure. Faith when tested by trials, comes through the trials having been proved genuine. Gold is the most valuable, pure, useful, and durable, of all the metals. In the same way, faith is the most valuable among all Christian virtues. Gold does not increase and multiply by trial in the fire, it is reduced as it is purified. Faith, however, grows stronger and is increased and perfected as it stands firm through the trials of life. God says that without faith it is impossible to please Him.
Jesus said to the disciple Thomas who refused to believe other witnesses that Jesus had been raised from the dead: "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29 NIV)
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. (Hebrews 11:1 MSG)
To God, our faith is of greater worth than gold, even faith which is as small as a mustard seed.
