Happy Thanksgiving

Monday October 13, 2014

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.  (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)

What difference does it make if we are grateful or not?

When we are grateful we find new strength to enjoy the day and new courage to build something better in our lives.  When we give thanks we fill our lives with joy and become more likeable to others.  People tend to hang around positive people.  Our circle of friends will grow as we radiate a joyful presence in their midst.

When we give thanks, a positive outlook begins to grow in us and we become people who are more confident.  Good things happen around people who work for and expect good things to happen.

But I will give repeated thanks to the Lord, praising him to everyone.  (Psalm 109:30 NLT)

When we give thanks we remember that God is working on our behalf, for our good, and His glory.  Our faith and trust grow as we accept this assurance and we begin to live for the good of our family and our community instead of our own self-interest.  We begin to experience the joy of being a part of God's family and a part of our community.  In giving thanks we encourage ourselves and change the direction of our lives.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT)

Let's look at our circumstances today, no matter whether they look challenging or full of goodness.  Let's look for the goodness of God in what is going on around us.  Let's pray to our gracious and generous God for what we need today as He has promised to meet all of our needs.  In the middle of the very circumstances where we are right now, let's receive the peace and joy that God is offering us today.
