Jesus Holds The Key

Friday October 24, 2014

These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. (Revelation 3:7 NIV)

The scriptures tell us that our resurrection and life depend on Jesus.  Jesus says that those who believe in Him though they physically die yet they shall live.  He also says that He is the only way to the Father so every other road is the wrong road.  Just like when we use the wrong key for our door it will not open up, travelling the wrong road will not lead us to eternal life.

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.  On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’  (Matthew 7:21-23 NLT)

Jesus wants each of us to know that He is the key to the Kingdom of Heaven.  If He opens the door for us, no one can shut it.  If He shuts the door to us, no one can open it.  Jesus is the only key.  No other key will open our way into eternal life with our Heavenly Father.  If we are following a different way and hoping it will lead to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven then we should consider the fact that Jesus said He is the only way.

Doing our own thing isn’t going to get us anywhere in the Kingdom of Heaven. What God requires is serious obedience—doing what our Heavenly Father requires of us.

Jesus tells us, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.  Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.  (John 14:23-24 NIV)

Jesus also said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26 NIV)

To each of us Jesus speaks , “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20 NKJV)

Today, are we willing to open up the door of our heart to Jesus?  He has no key to get in. He waits for us to open up the door.
