Happy New Year

Happy New Year! A time of new things, of new hopes and dreams. A time of new beginnings. Jesus is the source of all new beginnings. Because He is the creator of all things and all people, Jesus has the power to give us brand new lives when we give ourselves to Him. Unfortunately, many of us, for a long time, thought we had to bring about a new beginning for ourselves and then when we were “perfect” give ourselves to God. We have it backwards. While we struggle with life, God invites us to come to Him. If we believe in His power to change us, accept Him and the new life He offers, we become children of God who are encompassed with the unfailing love and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.
The Bible teaches us about Jesus, the living word when it says:
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:1-5, 10-12 NLT)
The same power that created the universe is available in us to create a new life from the broken pieces of our shattered hopes and dreams. The light of life that exposes and drives away the darkness from the human race is the same light that brightens the dark corners of our personal world. The source of all life and true light in the world is the same source of the power for our recovery. Eternal life is ours when we believe that God sent His son into the world that through Him we might be saved. We need to renounce our tendency to do things our own way and receive the one whom God sent to help us.
