Promises, Promises (1)

We hear so many words from others without seeing the actions to follow them up. In the hurt the inaction causes to us we judge these words as “empty promises.”  Empty promises bring disillusionment and sadness, pain and frustration.  Children hear parents promise them time and attention only to have them be too busy with “important things.”   Friends promise to help each other out.  Sometimes they come through and other times they disappoint.  Spouses make promises when they stand before a minister at a wedding ceremony to love and honor each other through the good and the bad times.

Then hard times come and sometimes someone gets “left behind.”  We hear politicians make all sorts of promises so we’ll vote for them on Election Day but who actually believes the promises of a politician?  

The Bible is full of information about many wonderful things God has promised us.  God’s promises are trustworthy because they are backed by His faithful word.  God’s promises are precious to us and fill our hearts and minds with peace because we can depend on them to be fulfilled with absolute certainty.  God does not make any promises He will not keep. 

God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.  (2 Samuel 22:31 NLT)

God promises us many things because He loves to do good for us and He desires to provide for all our needs.  God has told us that He will never leave us or forsake us.  He is always near to encourage us and give us the strength to do something wonderful in each day.    God has given us His word so we can know how to be strong and stand against the attacks of the devil.

I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. (Psalm 138:2 NLT) 

Today, in a world of empty and broken promises it's delightful to have confidence in all of God's dependable promises.
