Thriving Not Just Surviving (1)

Monday April 27, 2015

The day-to-day grind of doing what it takes to survive shows what it is like to cope with life in addiction.  As we come to enter into the life God is offering us in recovery, we will find that it is God's desire that we thrive and not simply survive.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.  (2 Peter 1:3-4 NIV)

God is always good.  God is always kind.  God is always generous.  God has given us everything we need to live in a way that will reflect all His wonderful character qualities.  As our lives mirror God's nature, we will discover that we have indeed escaped from the destruction and corruption of our old addictive desires and habits.
We can fill our hearts and minds with the hope of new life even though it might seem impossible for us to achieve.  A new and pleasing way of living will come about as we allow God to do in us what we cannot do for ourselves.  God will make everything beautiful in our lives and circumstance as we bring the things that concern us before Him for healing and blessing.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)

Today, let's submit to God and give Him the opportunity to help us thrive and not just survive.
