Thinking And Emotions (5)

Friday October 9, 2015

Some days we feel that we are weak and don’t have enough strength to face what we need to face, and do what we need to do.  On days like these we can call on the Lord and ask Him to restore our strength and help us through whatever is causing us concern.  King David, in the Bible, brought all his problems before the Lord, seeking help in his time of need.  This lifestyle of sharing all of life openly with God led to God calling David “a man after my own heart.”  When we have accepted Jesus as our Saviour, God acknowledges us as His children.  He is our Abba Father and everything in our lives also matters to Him.

God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’  For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.  So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.  Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” (Acts 13:22b NIV; Romans 8:14-15 NLT)

Each season of life brings its own concerns.  We are often vulnerable to allowing the unmet needs and expectations of one season influence and impact the next.  Jesus tells us that as children of God we should pray to our Heavenly Father, bringing all our needs and concerns to Him.  He tells us not to think and act like those who do not know God.  When we fail to seek the input of God when problems arise, then we are not thinking right.  When we allow ourselves to sit in misery we are not obeying God’s word and we are robbing ourselves of an abundant life.  King David was sure God would help him in the midst of trouble and, as God’s beloved children, we should also be certain.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.  The Lord will perfect that which concerns me. (Psalm 138:7-8a NKJV)

God wants us to throw off everything that hinders us from living life well with Him.  He wants us to leave our darkness behind and live in His glorious light.  He has promised to guide us along unfamiliar paths.  He is mighty to save.  He will never leave us nor forsake us in times of trouble.

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.  These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. (Isaiah 42:16 NIV)

Today, let’s strengthen ourselves in the Lord and think on His promises.
