Twelve Steps Of A.a. Step Twelve Spiritually Awake
Wednesday December 2, 2015

When we came into recovery we had a spiritual awakening. We realized that because of the sin in our lives we were separated from God. Up to this point we never thought about God or consulted Him about the plans he had for us when He created us. We travelled along the road of life, living as if God did not exist. Now we realize that He is the Higher Power who will accompany us as we move forward in our life in recovery. Not only do we need His caring presence alongside us, but we are also desperately in need of His guidance and direction.

Jesus said, “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.” (Matthew 7:24-27 MSG)

Because of our spiritual awakening, we can see the difference that results in our daily lives when we follow the ways of God. To obey God is more acceptable to Him than all the “good deeds” we may perform in his name. When we obey Him we can leave all the consequences of our actions with Him.
God says to each of us; Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 NKJV)
