Security Vs. Insecurity (4)

Thursday January 21, 2016

Everyday unpredictable circumstances often keep us feeling out of sorts and insecure. They are not the only source of these anxieties.  For many of us it is our own unpredictable thoughts and desires that make us afraid of our next move.  Do we really believe that God exists, that He will actually act on our behalf, and reward us as we persistently seek Him?  We speak often about a Higher Power but seldom live as though God is with us and working for us.

…without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.  (Hebrews 11:6 NIV)

Growth in recovery comes as we begin to believe that God can hold us steady while life shifts and turns around us and within us.  God is our rock.  As we fix our attention on Him and let Him change the way we think and act, he will bring about transformation in us from the inside out.  Sometimes we think changing what we do will bring about the new secure life we are seeking.  This may help contribute to our well-being but only God can actually transform us so that we may know what God’s good, pleasing and perfect will is for us.  God invites us to seek and know Him in the midst of unpredictable and insecure circumstances. God says if we trust Him in our times of trouble He will rescue us and we will give honour to Him for all He has done for us.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  (Romans 12:2 NIV)

Our security is found in trusting God in each and every circumstance.  Let’s determine to know and have faith that God truly does exist and trust Him when he promises that if we seek Him we will find Him.  Let’s enjoy a new and secure day of life with God in recovery.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
