1 Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.
2 Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.
3 They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.
4 You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully.
5 Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees!
6 Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands.
7 As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!
8 I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me!
(Psalm 119:1-8 NLT)

There is no doubt that the God who created us in love, intended that we would have a joyful life filled with blessing.  Some days of our life were lost to the pain and confusion, the shame and hardship of addiction and various forms of destructive living.  Even in recovery we all fall short of our ideals and think or do harmful things.

No matter where we are in our journey of life, God is calling out an invitation to us to come to the joyful life He has always had available for us.  How do we receive this gift of new life for today?  We make a choice to conform our choices and behaviours to what God says works.  We make an effort to learn God’s will and whole-heartedly set ourselves to follow what we learn.  Joy grows in us as we observe that God can be relied upon to give us good direction and strength to carry out his commands.  As we practice His will in all our affairs our hearts heal and our perspective lifts.

Thank God that He knows we will stumble as we learn but He never gives up on us.  Life with God in recovery is really a good life.
