Serenity Saturday Mountains Speak Peace

Saturday July 30, 2016

Mountains surround the city of Vancouver, BC.  The lights of Grouse Mountain are a landmark and are visible each night.  Whistler Mountain is famous around the world for skiers and hikers. As we look at beautiful mountains that remind us of strength and stability, so we are encouraged to remember that God, the maker of the mountains, cares for us and in His care we can be secure and filled with peace.  God watches over us.  God supports us.  God protects us.

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!  He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.  Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.  The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.  The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.  The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.  The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.  (Psalm 121:1-5 NLT)

As we allow God to care for and bless us, we can feel as secure as a mountain.  Your favor, O Lord, made me as secure as a mountain.  Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered. (Psalm 30:7 NLT)

The most precious and famous mountain of all is Mount Calvary where God made his deliverance available to each one of us. Jesus was crucified and died in that place.  We could not pay the debt owed for our sins.  We could not heal ourselves of the things that trouble us.  Jesus died in our place on Mount Calvary that we might be liberated from the bondage of sin and by His wounds we are healed.  And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.  (Luke 23:33 NKJV)

With every mountain we see today let’s remember that God has redeemed us and made a way for us to live in love and peace with Him forever.
