Faithfulness A Faithful Worker

Monday August 22, 2016

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.  (Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV)

What does it mean to be faithful?  The dictionary defines faithful in several ways:  1) Strict or thorough in the performance of duty - a faithful worker. 2) True to one’s word, promises, vows, etc. 3) Steady in allegiance or affection, loyal, constant - faithful friends. 4) Adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original, accurate - a faithful account or a faithful copy.

All of these, to a limited degree, describe God’s faithfulness as shown in His character and in His work of creation.

Day 1 He spoke light and divided the light from the darkness.
Day 2 He spoke firmament (heavens or sky), in the midst of the waters and divided the waters under the firmament from the waters above the firmament.
Day 3 God separated land and oceans, and made all kinds of vegetation
Day 4 God put the sun, moon and stars in the earth and established days, seasons, and years.
Day 5 God made fish, and birds, and all living creatures.
Day 6 Then God made humans, male and female.

For the Lord is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place.  He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos.  “I am the Lord,” he says, “and there is no other.  I publicly proclaim bold promises.  I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner. (Isaiah 45:18-19a NLT)

God is orderly and thorough in everything He does.  He created us in His flawless image, and He tenderly cares for all of His creation.  We can trust Him with our lives.
