Faithfulness True To Your Word
Tuesday August 23, 2016

Are we true to the words we speak? Do people trust what we say? Do we always do what we say we will do? When we make promises to God, our spouse, our children, our extended family, friends and acquaintances, we usually mean to keep them. However, unseen circumstances may arise and we find ourselves in situations which conflict with the promises we have made. What do we do when this happens? Will we honour the promises we have made?

When God makes a promise He can be relied on to fulfill His promise. The Bible records many promises that God has made to His people and He has proved to be faithful in fulfilling every one.

As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory. (2 Corinthians 1:18-20 NLT)
Promises should not be made lightly but with every intention of fulfilling them. Broken promises have caused a lot of heartache. The integrity of the promise maker suffers when a promise is broken and guilt and shame are often predictable consequences.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 NIV)
God knows the heartache broken promises cause and encourages us to be people of integrity, fulfilling what we have promised.
