Serenity Saturday Peaceful Surrender

Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. (Psalm 10:17 NLT)
When something has frightened a little child their first move is to find a parent and run to them. They hold out their arms asking to be picked up and held or they will grab hold of the legs of the parent and bury their little faces as close to the parent as they can. They don’t know what needs to be done or what their parent can do. They just know that their only hope for peace and safety is with the one who loves them. They trust that whatever needs doing, their parent will do it.

What is needed in the moment is the close contact of the parent holding on tightly to the child and speaking comforting words of reassurance until the child calms down. The little one’s heart slows down. Their body relaxes a bit. Their cries and tears quiet. The child relaxes because they have found security and peace with the one who loves them.
When we turn our will and our lives over to the care of God we will find peace for our souls. Our hearts will find comfort. Our minds will settle. God is in control. God is with us. God is for us.
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. (1 Thessalonians 3:16)

Our main issue, as we begin the recovery process, is to find a way to stay close to God. We need to hear God’s words of unfailing love and kindness over and over again because our heart is racing and we don’t know what to do. God does. He knows us and He cares.
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. (Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)
Today, let’s run to God with upraised arms and let Him lift us up, embrace us, and calm our hearts. He will draw us close to His heart as we rest in His care.
