Key To Successful Life In Recovery

Wednesday September 28, 2016

Trusting Jesus and following His lead is the only key to successful recovery.  No other key will open our way into eternal life with our Heavenly Father.  If we are following a different way and hoping it will lead us to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven then we should consider the fact that Jesus said He is the only way.

Jesus also said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26 NIV)

The key that opens the door to life is believing in Jesus.  What are the signs that we are trusting God’s love and forgiveness or still holding onto our own confused way?  Jesus sorts that out for us when He says: “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.  Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.  (John 14:23-24 NIV)

We do not have to do anything to earn God’s love.  We cannot do enough good things to earn God’s saving grace.  We know for sure we’ve opened the door to God’s will in our life when we find our desire to do the right thing growing and we are making choices to do what God says works, even when it’s in opposition to what we would previously have done, or when it was inconvenient in that moment.

Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.  (Proverbs 4:13 NLT)

We don’t do the right thing because we have to earn something, rather we do the right thing because we begin to trust that God is good and God is showing us a good way forward.

You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.  (Deuteronomy 30:20 NLT)

Today, let’s unlock the door to the wonderful life God planned for us when He created us.  Let’s trust His loving heart for each of us.
