Unlocking My Life's Treasures
Tuesday September 27, 2016

We have come into recovery because we are seeking to find what will give us a successful life. Jesus wants each of us to know that He is the key to life and recovery here on earth and eternal life in heaven after we die. What’s His part? What’s mine?
This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open. (Revelation 3:7 NLT)

When a person goes to the bank to open a safety deposit box they need to bring a key. The bank holds a second key and only when the two keys are used together will that box be opened. Similarly, God offers us the key to life through Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and offers us new life. Our will and our choosing to trust Jesus is the second key necessary for the opening of the door of life for each of us. That’s why the founders of AA didn’t just tell us that we needed to come to believe in a power greater than ourselves who could restore us to sanity but we also had to turn our will and our life over to his care.

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. (Matthew 7:21 NLT)
No one can give us true recovery except Jesus. No one can keep us from recovery except our own rebellious will. Safety deposit boxes hold valuable treasures. Our lives are precious and valuable. Together with God, let’s open up and enjoy the wonderful gift of life that He’s been keeping safe for us.
