Wind Invisible But Real
Tuesday November 8, 2016

There's nothing more refreshing than a walk on a fall evening with a gentle breeze blowing. We feel the wind on our cheeks. Our hair blows across our forehead and we feel energized.

We see all sorts of evidence of the wind. But, if someone were to ask us, “What does the wind look like?” all of us would have a problem answering because none of us can actually see the wind. When meteorologists forecast the weather they can tell us what speed to expect the wind to be, what direction it will blow, whether it will be warm or cold, have moisture or be dry. However, the wind remains invisible and we cannot see it!
Jesus used the wind as an example when he was trying to explain to someone about how real and powerful God is, even though we can't see him.

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:5-8 NIV)
When we invite Jesus to come into our hearts and forgive our sins, we can be assured that He does come in and we have been born again to life everlasting. We cannot see this new birth, but the effects will be as real as the effects of the wind we cannot see. This work of God, and our obedience to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit who comes to live within us, will be clearly visible to all of those who come into contact with us.

When we feel the wind today, let's remember Jesus’ challenge to us that we must be born again so that we can have new life with Him forever.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the fresh new life You have made available to us through Jesus. Come into my heart today. I want the new birth and fresh start that only You can give. I commit my will and my life into your care.
