The Famous Smile

One of our favorite Christmas songs is “The Little Drummer Boy” because, in spite of being a little guy with not very much, he really “gets it.” He wants to give something to the new born king. He doesn’t quite know what, but soon realizes that while he may not have an expensive present to give to Jesus, He can play his drum for him. And he does! The song goes, “The ox and lamb kept time … I played my drum for Him ….. I played my best for Him …”.
The little drummer boy took a risk in doing what he could do. He reached out and offered his gift of drumming to Jesus. When he finished playing there was recognition of the lovely gift, because the last line of the song says, “Then he (Jesus) smiled at me …. Me and my drum.”

The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." (Numbers 6:23-26 NIV)
One of the best ways we can move forward in our life in recovery is to leave behind our self-centered, self-pitying, “poor me” ways. We can live the “gifted” life, bless others and enjoy the “smile” of God.

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17)
Lord Jesus, I kneel before Your throne and offer You all that I am and have. I ask You to help me love You with all my heart, soul and mind, and to love others as myself. My desire is to make You smile.
