The Love That Holds Our Year Together

As we come to the end of this year, a year filled with both accomplishments and failures, it’s time to reflect on the events of the year that brought growth and joy in our journey with God in recovery. Perhaps, as we reflect, we may also have an overwhelming sense of the challenges and struggles that still surround us. However, if we continue to turn our will and our life over to the care of God, we can be confident that He, who began this great work in us, promises to finish it.
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT)
At the end of each year we are reminded that the God of time and eternity has, for centuries, looked on human struggle and growth, accomplishments and failures. He has heard people make promises to Him and then turn away from them, making choices that He knew would lead them to more pain and heartbreak, but they wouldn’t listen to Him.
God has planted eternity in each of our hearts. He is ready and willing to supply what we need to have a meaningful and purposeful new year. We have hope on this New Year’s Eve because God continues to lavish His love on us. The reason we have this blessed assurance is through believing in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, who purchased for us the gift of eternal life.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:5-8 NKJV)
Heavenly Father, with confidence we put our hand into Yours and enter this coming New Year, and every year following, knowing that You will faithfully lead us in the way we are to go.
