The Best Choice Of The Year

The season of Christmas celebrations and New Year holidays has gone for another year. The time has come to move into the responsibilities and adventure of this new year. God's invitation to us is to turn away from harmful and destructive thoughts and behaviour and turn to Him and His unfailing love. He wants us to come to believe that He is a power greater than ourselves who can restore us as we put our will and our life into His care.
“The time has come,” Jesus said. “The kingdom of God is near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!” One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake. They were fishermen. “Come. Follow me,” Jesus said. “I will make you fishers of people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. (Mark 1:15-17 NIRV)
Jesus saw men who were busy doing their jobs. They were ordinary men working hard and living everyday lives. They had fish to catch and clean and get to market so they could provide for the needs of their family. Into this ordinary pattern of their life steps Jesus with a startling command, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of people." Although they were responsible men, they immediately left their nets and their boats and followed Jesus.
Jesus sees us in our everyday lives. He has good plans for us. He wants us to experience the deep and meaningful life He has prepared for us. This requires some interruption to our everyday activities. For all of us, it’s taking time daily to read God’s word and pray. For some of us it’s also taking a season of weeks or months in a treatment or recovery setting where we daily hear, reflect on, and begin to practice healthy life principles. Only by listening for God’s direction, and following what He tells us to do, will we ever experience the richness and satisfaction of living God’s good, pleasing and perfect plan for our lives.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, As I make the choice to turn my will and my life over to Your care, help me to take time to listen closely to You and do what You say. AMEN
