Sobriety Delivers Everything Alcohol Promised

There’s an old slogan in AA that says, “Sobriety delivers everything alcohol promised.” Our new life in recovery gives us the daily experience of the companionship and help of God in every situation, particularly where we previously thought we needed the help of the bottle or a substance.
Jesus says, “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We respond: I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me. (Matthew 28:20, Psalm 86:7 NLT)
When we purposefully trust God’s goodness and His willingness to help us, we can stand steady in the middle of what is happening and watch God bring about solutions that we never thought possible. God is the God of the impossible. When we accept Christ as our Saviour, we become children of God. God delights to do good things on behalf of His children. All God’s amazing promises become our inheritance. Sobriety, and particularly sobriety with God, delivers everything alcohol promised.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 1:20-22 NIV)
Our Heavenly Father is waiting for us to trust Him and rely on His promises. As we choose to do so, we will no longer need liquid spirits from a bottle or a substance to help us cope. The power of the Holy Spirit within us will strengthen us and cause us to stand firm with God in our recovery. God guarantees whatever He says and He will do it.
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17 NIV)
Prayer: Loving God, Thank You for your reliable promises. I choose to put my trust in You for You are a good Father and are faithful in all Your ways. AMEN
