Spiritual Detox (3)

God wants us to have a life that is good, pleasing and perfect, and in the Bible, He teaches us what that life looks like. God also provides the power to live it.
For too long we have done what we wanted, when we wanted, without thought for the impact that our behaviour had on others. We need this way of self-centered thinking and mindless responding to our feelings, together with our rebellious self-will, to be detoxed from our system. How do we do that? We ask God to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves - detox the spiritual poison of independent and rebellious self-will from our hearts.
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. (Psalm 51:1-3, 7,10 NLT)
As we set aside our old way of thinking, no matter how familiar it is to us, and make a choice to trust and rely on God, He begins to wash out the pain and fill us with forgiveness, love, and comfort. God also pours in hope and faith and strength for the days ahead.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Philippians 2:13, Romans 12:2 NLT)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that I am lost without you. I want a new life. I turn away from my rebellious ways and turn to You. Forgive my sins. Wash me clean. Come and live in me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Amen
