Faithful In Times Of Need
Sunday October 22, 2017

How many times in our addictive lifestyle were people looking for us, seeking to do us harm? Perhaps we stole something from them or twisted their words so that we got something we wanted by lying about what they said. Sometimes we would lie so it would put us in a more favourable light with others. Now things have changed and they are after us. Perhaps we, like the person who wrote the following Psalm, cried out to God to save us from those who were hounding us.

O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me. They come together to spy on me—watching my every step, eager to kill me. (Psalm 56:1-6 NLT)

In his circumstances David admitted to being afraid but then affirmed that when he was afraid he put his trust in God. He listed his problems and then began to praise God for what He had promised.

We may be in a place where we are calling out to God because of the troubles that surround us. Perhaps we are wondering if God will fulfill His promises to us. God fulfilled His promises to David and He will do the same for us. Let’s affirm today that, in spite of our fears, we will put our trust in God and praise Him for what He has promised to do.
Prayer: Loving God, When I lack faith, help me to believe that You will do what You have promised. Amen
