Christmas Not Just A Holiday
Monday December 25, 2017

Why do we celebrate Christmas? Why not just settle for a winter holiday of Santa and snow and parties and gifts? Those of us who believe in Jesus celebrate Christmas because we know He came to earth as a helpless human baby so that He might deliver us from the penalty of our sin.
Jesus willingly set aside all His rights in heaven to take on human flesh and live as an obedient servant to the living God. He fulfilled God’s plan of salvation for sinful, suffering, and broken human beings.

Jesus willingly set aside all His rights in heaven to take on human flesh and live as an obedient servant to the living God. He fulfilled God’s plan of salvation for sinful, suffering, and broken human beings.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. (Philippians 2:6-8 NLT)

God embraces us as His children when we turn from stubborn self-will and trust Jesus to set us free from our sin. The gift Jesus came to give us, that we celebrate at Christmas, is life with God, now and forever. God also guides and directs us in this new life and gives us the power to do what is right.

We don’t leave gifts under the Christmas tree unopened. We open them and enjoy them now. Life with Jesus is a gift to be opened today and enjoyed now and for eternity.
Prayer: Loving God, Thank You for Jesus our Saviour, born into the world to give us a new life filled with peace. Amen
