Christmas Not Just A Holiday

Why do we celebrate Christmas?  Why not just settle for a winter holiday of Santa and snow and parties and gifts?  Those of us who believe in Jesus celebrate Christmas because we know He came to earth as a helpless human baby so that He might deliver us from the penalty of our sin.  Jesus willingly set aside all His rights in heaven, came to earth and took on human flesh, and lived an obedient life in the service of the Living God.  He fulfilled God’s plan of salvation for sinful, suffering, and broken human beings like us.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.  Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.  (Philippians 2:6-8 NLT)

When we turn from stubborn self-will and trust in Jesus to set us free from our sin, God embraces us as His children.  The gift Jesus came to give us is life with God, now and forever.  God will guide and direct us in our new life with Him and will give us the power to do what is right.


 GOD made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.  When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start.  Now I’m alert to GOD’s ways; I don’t take God for granted.  Every day I review the ways he works; I try not to miss a trick.  I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step.  GOD rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.  (Psalm 18:20-24 MSG)


 We don’t leave gifts under the Christmas tree unopened.  We open them and enjoy them now.  Life with Jesus is a gift to be opened today and enjoyed now and for eternity.



Prayer: Gracious God, Thank You for Jesus who was born into this world to be my Saviour and to give me a new life filled with peace.  Today, I choose to accept this gift.  Amen
