Growing Mature By Trusting God’s Promises

Saturday January 30, 2021

A lot of destructive and addictive behaviours are based in the poverty mentality that results from our belief that our needs are not being met.  Whatever the reasons for this experience in the past, it is time to live in the security of God's promises to meet all our daily needs.

We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. God made great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.
  (2 Peter 1:3-4 CEV)

Our world teaches us to look outside of ourselves to money, toys, or popularity to supply the need for satisfaction in life.  Unfortunately, no matter how many worldly things we have, as so many lives have given witness to, without God there is still an emptiness inside each one of us.

God’s word teaches us that the way to escape the insecurity and inner drive that leads to much evil, brokenness, and pain in our lives is to trust God and all He promises to be and do for us.  Addiction to substances is not the way to contentment for anyone and neither is dependency on anything else we see around us.  Only in coming to believe in the faithful promises of a faithful God and centering our lives on those promises will we be able to live in a way that pleases God and gives us inner satisfaction.

God has saved us. He has chosen us to live a holy life. It wasn’t because of anything we have done. It was because of his own purpose and grace. Through Christ Jesus, God gave us this grace even before time began. And God is able to shower all kinds of blessings on you. So, in all things and at all times you will have everything you need. You will do more and more good works. (2 Timothy 1:9, 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIRV)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, forgive me for the many things I have put my trust in rather than in You and Your promises.  Help me to know You more and have faith in Your Word which declares that all Your promises are “YES” to me as I follow You in all my ways. Amen
